SUSTAINABLE CYCLING APPAREL BY VELOR
Every day we try to push the boundaries of sustainability. We use recycled materials, produce as close to home as possible and are working hard to make cycling apparel circular.
The process continues when you no longer wear Velor. In fact, you can return the clothing to us and we will make sure it is neatly recycled again and stays in the 'circle'!
Curious what the production process looks like? We are happy to explain it to you! Check out the 5 steps below:
STEP 1: COLLECTING PLASTIC WASTE
A positive impact on the environment starts with cleaning up plastic waste. For example, PET bottles are collected and fishing nets are retrieved from the Mediterranean Sea. We are proud that Velor clothing is made from these waste products!
STEP 2: RECYCLING OF PLASTIC WASTE
After collection of waste, it is sorted. Then, it is recycled into pellets. These pellets are the basis for creating new fabrics.
Did you know that each Velor jersey contains material from 8 PET bottles?
STEP 3: CREATING FABRICS
From the pellets, yarn is spun. Yarns are then woven into fabrics.
Did you know that recycled fabrics achieve the same high quality compared to non-recycled fabrics?
STEP 4: PRODUCTION OF VELOR CYCLING CLOTHING
From the fabrics, individual parts of the jersey are cut out and stitched into jerseys or bib shorts.
Did you know it takes approximately 40 minutes to produce one Velor jersey?
STEP 5: RECYCLING VELOR CLOTHING
At this moment, 90-95% of our clothing is made from materials that have been recycled. In the future these can be recycled again. That is why we ask you to send back your piece of Velor clothing once you no longer use it, so we can use it again to make sustainable clothing.
Did you know that the first Velor jersey has already been turned back into polyester?
Our sustainability principles.
From a 100% European production, to the use of the recycled yarns, everything is being pushed to reach the most sustainabile cyclewear possible. Our aim is to make it fully circular by 2024. Discover our sustainability pillars.
We are on a quest for maximum efficiency to minimize our CO2 emissions. We are not carbon neutral and perhaps we will never be. However, in each decision, we aimed at minimizing Velor's impact. And we are still working every single day to push boundaries of sustainability.
Why the name Velor ?
Velor, born out of love for cycling and nature. It's a contraction of the 2 French words velo (bicycle) and valoriser (adding value to waste).
Send us the jerseys you don't wear anymore !
