Our Impact
For us, no greenwashing, just a quest for maximum efficiency to minimize our CO2 emissions. We are not carbon neutral and perhaps we will never be. However, in each decision, we aimed at minimizing Velor's impact. And we are still working every single day to push boundaries of sustainability.
The infographic below summarises what we do:
Sustainable sourcing and certified fabrics
To create our cyclewear we use high quality fabrics made out of recycled PET or recycled marine waste. Besides this we are aiming to make cycling garments from eco friendly materials as well.
Our fabrics are certified according to GRS standard, BLUESIGN®, OEKO-TEX® and ISO 14001 standards ensuring full traceability throughout the value chain.
100% European Production
To continue lowering our footprint we decided we have to produce as close as possible to the people that want to join our mission. When reading this far, we mean you! Pieces of clothing made in Asia travel almost 50000km until its final destination: the consumer. So by producing in Western Europe we could already lower this by 90%.
Low Footprint
Using recycled materials already has a big impact on reducing the footprint of our clothing. Recycled-based polyester has a 50% lower footprint compared to fossil-based polyester. But we do not stop there. Using electricity coming from green options as solar and wind turbines will further lower our CO2 footprint.
We aim on launching pre-sales to avoid overproducing. This way we will only produce what will get used.
Packaging
We look at every step of our production processes. Every detail has been optimized to create the lowest footprint possible. Packaging plays an important role and we use only 100% recycled-based paper. It is our goal to use circular packaging in the near future. This means we will use recycled packaging wich is re-usable as well.
Quality
The single best way to avoid waste is to use your garments for as long as possible. At Velor, we guarantee top-notch quality jerseys, bib shorts, and accessories to make sure you will enjoy riding in them for years. Before products are launched, the prototypes are extensively tested by former professional cyclists, high level amateurs, and off course enthusiasts. Only once we are truly satisfied with the quality, we move to the production stage.
Circularity
A cycling garment brand that is aiming to be the first circular cyclewear brand. Why circular? You might ask. By using renewable resources, we stop taking resources from the planet to make our cycling clothing. Which means you can use the same fibers again to make a new high quality fabric wich can turn into your new jersey! So there will be less water used, a lot less CO2 produced and we will cause a lot less harm to the planet.
Once your jersey or bib shorts are worn out, at anytime you can send them back to us and
we will make sure they are properly disposed of, recycled into a new jersey, sustainably recycled into another product, or used by another cyclist.
