A day with a comitted and demanding athlete

On a ride around Fort Brégançon, near Bormes-les-Mimosas, i had the chance to observe Anthony’s cycling posture and the precision of his equipment. Now a professional triathlete, he splits his training time between running, swimming, and of course, cycling.

In his Côte d'Azur garage Anthony keeps two prized bikes: a classic road bike for training and a time-trial bike for competition. From the very first pedal strokes, his natural, effortless flow on the bike was obvious. Keeping up was easy, thanks to his steady, consistent pace with no sudden bursts.

Even with the mistral wind blowing, we hardly strayed off course. Riding behind him, focused on his wheel and his words, I felt no strain at all. It wasn't Anthony's physical power that impressed me most, but the calm, fluid way he rode, entirely free of any pressure that day.

All summer i’d looked forward to this route with him. I wanted to show him what I could do, me, Julien, 34 years old, with 12 ascents of Mont Ventoux under my belt. The setting Anthony chose was perfect for showing how a good cycling posture and the sheer joy of riding contribute to training and better performance. Thirty-two kilometers among scenic vineyards and estates flew by.

It was also the perfect opportunity to talk about something close to his heart: protecting the environment.
